Representatives of both the Swedish enterprise and the unions maintain that the government’s intention infringes upon EU law. According to the plan, the government wants to forbid insurances that lead to sickness benefit payments higher than 75 percent.
Minister of Finance, Anders Borg, conceded the plan might cause judicial trouble with the European Union. But at the same time he pointed out it must be avoided that people “insure themselves out of the state health care system”.
