February 7th proclaimed National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

February 7th was proclaimed National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Making this step the Florida Department of Health highlights the disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS on the black community and encourages people to learn more about HIV/AIDS.

According to statistics, 48 % of black people in Florida have AIDS and 52 % - statewide. One can say that the leading cause of death for black Floridians between the ages of 25 and 44 is HIV/AIDS.

The Florida Department of Health is going to cooperate with county health departments and community-based organizations and leaders to decide upon the problem. The first steps will be seen in Tallahassee and Miami-Dade County , where some activities are planned.
