Great Weekend Coming Up For Swedish Sports Fans

There’s much to look forward to for Swedish sports fans taking place in the country this weekend.

The Rally of Sweden known as the snow rally, has already begun down in Western Sweden. Competitors will be driving on snow and ice through the forests over the weekend.

Up in the North in Östersund, in the county of Jämtland, the World Biathlon Championships start on Saturday and last a week. In Biathlon, competitors cross country ski against the clock with a rifle on their backs, and at certain points must lower their heart rate and aim and shoot at a target.

Sweden has been building towards the championship for four years and boasts strong teams in both men and women. Coach Staffan Eklund said three medals was the target. Östersund last hosted the World Biathlon Championships in 1970.

In tennis, Sweden take on Israel in the Davis Cup in the first round group stage on a hard court surface just outisde Tel Aviv. Israel making only its second ever appearance in the World group.
