This event is part of the Saline High School Spring Festival and takes place in Saline High School's Ewing Auditorium. Lipsky will conduct the 9th Grade Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra.
Lipsky will be meeting with the students and rehearsing for four days in March prior to the concert. With Mr. Lipsky, the Chamber Orchestra will perform the Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, (The Unfinished Symphony,) Movement 1 by Franz Schubert and selections from the Holberg Suite, Op. 40 by Edvard Grieg.
The Saline High School Symphony Orchestra will present Six Studies in English Folk Song by Ralph Vaughn Williams and Six Italian Dance Tunes by Peter Warlock, with Lipsky conducting. The Ninth Grade Orchestra will appear under Mr. Lipsky's baton for "Folk Tune and Fiddle Dance" by Percy Fletcher and Mantras by Richard Meyer.
Rebecca Pagels Cheskidov, Education Director for the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra said, "This unique collaboration shows that the A2SO is reaching out to our neighboring communities, and it's such a great learning experience for the Saline students to have the chance to work with a fantastic conductor like Arie." The Ann Arbor Symphony first began discussing collaboration with Saline High School orchestra director Erin Hansen in April 2007. These discussions led to the program on March 27. -- www.a2so.com
