Mr Erdogan said that while Turkish immigrants should learn German, they should keep their distance from German culture and society. He called assimilation a crime against humanity.
The Dutch integration minister said that while Turkish immigrants should maintain ties with their country of origin they should also become a part of Dutch society. The Dutch cabinet has accepted a proposal by the conservative VVD party to investigate whether the European Union can raise the issue with the Turkish prime minister.
