The Serbian province is expected to declare its independence next week. Because of objections from Security Council member Russia, United Nations recognition will not be forthcoming, but a number of EU countries are expected to recognize the new state.
Speaking to Swedish Radio News, Bildt, a former envoy for the international community in the Balkans, says because the situation is complicated under international law it will take several weeks before the parliamentary foreign policy committee can meet and reach the necessary broad political agreement.
