Fast Food: Bad News and Good News

A Swedish study has revealed both good and bad health results for fast food diets.

The researchers had 18 young men and women in good physical condition eat twice a day at fast food restaurants for a month, while avoiding any exercise. The study was inspired by the documentary “Supersize Me”

As expected the participants all gained weight. They also wound up with dangerously high levels of enzymes linked to liver damage, more typical of alcoholics or hepatitis sufferers. One participant’s level of the enzyme ALT increased so much he had to be withdrawn from the experiment.

But more surprising was that the diet of burgers, French fries and soft drinks also saw a boost in the level of so-called good cholesterol.
