Controversial Preschool Clothing Code in Sweden

There is controversy in Gällivare in northern Sweden after a preschool has forbidden its children from wearing clothing with stripes or polka dots.

According to the headmistress one member of her staff gets migraine headaches from seeing clothes that are anything other than monotone. She sees it as a working environment problem.

Parents say if their children arrive wearing what are considering to be “wrong” clothes, they are forced to change into one-colored garments left behind by other children.

Both the head of the national school parents association and the local politician responsible for children and education have criticised the school’s decision.
