Tskhinvali Rules Out Alternative Government's Role In Talks

The alternative government's proposal to be involved in the negotiating process over South Ossetian conflict resolution issues is "absurd" and "unethical," South Ossetian chief negotiator Boris Chochiev said on December 5, according to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee.

Maia Chigoeva-Tsaboshvili, who is slated to become foreign minister for the Tbilisi-loyal alternative government of South Ossetia, said on December 5 that it would be reasonable to be involved in the Joint Control Commission, which is currently made up of negotiators from the Georgian, South Ossetian, Russia and Russia's North Ossetian sides.

"This illegal organization [the alternative authorities] is trying to split the current negotiating mechanism. This self-styled organization was set up by the Georgian leadership and has nothing to do with this format [JCC] - that is why they can only represent the Georgian side in the JCC," Boris Chochiev said.
