Sweden’s pharmacy monopoly has all but given up on being paid the US$ 46.7 million it’s owed by customers who have charged their medications.
In 2007, over 12 500 customers who wanted medicine on credit, were turned away from pharmacies around the country.
The debate in Sweden has now turned to what will happen when the monopoly disappears, with fears that it will become harder to request a respite from expensive medicine bills in the future.
