EU Commission President in Stockholm

European Union Commission President, José Manuel Barroso was in Sweden Thursday for a meeting with the government and the Swedish King.

On the table during talks with Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt were: the upcoming Swedish EU presidency and EU climate policies.

At a Stockholm press conference, Barroso answered questions on the role of nuclear power in the EU climate agenda:

”Nuclear power is already very important, namely for electricity in Europe, that is quite obvious ... It’s true also that it is easier to attain the greenhouse gas reduction for those countries already having nuclear power, this is also true. And it is also true, that for the countries that want to have nuclear power, we the Commission have the responsibility to assist them in terms of research and in terms of safety.”
