The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This system dropped rain over Florida earlier this week, before entering the Gulf of Mexico. The Hurricane Center says chances are less then 30% that this storm will develop into a tropical storm but residents along the Northern Gulf Coast can expect strong winds and heavy rain.

The National Hurricane Center is carefully watching a disturbance over the Northern Gulf Coast today to see if it may further develop into a tropical weather event. The chances of this storm developing are under 30%, but the NHC reports "some slow development of this system is possible as it moves slowly northward." If needed an Air Force reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft may investigate the storm on Saturday.

Whether the storm develops further or not, residents along the Northern Gulf Coast can expect heavy rain and strong winds over the Memorial Day Weekend.

The Hurricane Season officially begins on June 1st, and the first named storm will be Ana. Once in a Tropical Storm can form before this date, the last being Tropical Storm Arthur in 2008.
