
54-year-old John Creager is lucky to be alive after falling 500 feet down Oregon's Mount Hood. On May 17 Creager, was only 200 feet from reaching the Mountain's summit when he lost his footing. Creager broke a vertebra in his neck and was knocked unconscious, he was rushed via helicopter to a nearby trauma center.
Creager was lucky to survive his close call with death. He was released a few days later from the hospital, but still has to wear a neck traction device and has multiple cuts and bruises. John said about Mount Hood, "It’s a dangerous mountain and if you lose focus for just an instant the results are pretty disastrous,”.
At 11,249 feet Mount Hood is the highest mountain in Oregon. More than 130 people have died in climbing related accidents on Mount Hood in the past.
