US Coast Guard rescues boat of National Guard members

The Coast Guard this morning rescued Oregon National Guardsmen who's training mission went awry. Six Oregon National Guard soldiers were rescued in the mouth of the Columbia river after their vessel capsized.

At around 10 a.m. Friday morning, the United States Coast Guard Group Astoria received a brief mayday call. Using a communications tower in Washington, the Coast Guard was able to pinpoint the location of the call. A 47ft lifeboat as well as a MH-60J rescue helicopter were immediately dispatched to the mouth of the Columbia.

All 6 men, were rescued and taken back to Cape Disappointment for medical care. It turns out the men were actually members of the Oregon National guard and were conducting a unspecified mission. Capt. Stephan Bomar, a spokesman for the Oregon Military Department said, "This is a great example of military services looking out for each other,". All 6 men were uninjured and are lucky to be alive.
