The Muskegon Correctional Facility that was slated to close and cause devastating job loss in the area, is remaining open until a final decision is made on California inmates. Tom Tylutki, president of the Michigan Corrections Organization, said the California inspection team was expected to make a favorable recommendation to that state's corrections department. His union supports the deal with California as it would help union members keep their jobs.
This deal is also vital for California, a state that has been suffering through a major budget crisis and has had to cut spending for Prisons, inmates and many more services.
