Swedes Comment on Castro’s Departure

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has reacted to former Cuban President Fidel Castro’s announcement that he will not return to political leadership ”as the end of an epoch and the beginning of the end of another Communist dictatorship.”

The Swedish minister adds the Cuban revolution began as a symbol of freedom to become a symbol of oppression – and that such a rigid system can not survive.

Other Swedish politician leaders on the left maintain that Castro must be given credit for giving Cuba a leading role among the nations of the 3rd world and that the achievements of the Cuban revolution are remarkable.
