Glasgow Museum Presents Open Community Exhibition

Two community groups have been selected from entries to GoMA's 4th Open Community Exhibition, with the exhibitions being on show in Balcony 3 until 27 April.

The annual Open Community Exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art offers the opportunity for community groups to celebrate their achievements in a busy city centre venue.

Both groups were invited to consider the Balcony galleries at GoMA and develop their exhibition with GoMA staff.

The exhibitions celebrate two areas in Glasgow, their history and their environment.

Me Art and the Garden has been created by a group of young girls called Gemz from the Pollokshields based organisation YCSA. They worked with The Hidden Gardens Artist in Residence, Rachel Mimiec to create an exhibition inspired by their research at The Hidden Gardens.

A Moment in Time

Four mixed-media collages by pupils of St Gregory's and Wyndford primary schools, made with artist Victoria Skogsberg.

As part of the celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the formation of Maryhill Housing Association, it was decided to involve pupils from two local primary schools – St Gregory' Primary and Wyndford Primary in a photography project.

A group of pupils were given disposable (single use) cameras with a remit of taking photos in the categories of:

- my family
- my friends
- my community

The pupils were then brought together in workshops by artist Victoria Skogsberg and using a variety of shape, texture and colour, produced four large collages. -- www.glasgowmuseums.com

  • Building a House

Builders picked up the building pace in April as the industry streaked past analyst estimates for new housing starts. Led mainly by the development of multi-family projects builders showed that they exist to do one thing - build. It's a good news as the housing starts rise unexpectedly. Could this be the bottom of the real estate crisis in the United State?
