Exciting New Shows At Grand Theatre

Visit Blackpool's beautiful Grand Theatre in 2008 and you will experience everything from opera, ballet, plays, comedies, musicals, contemporary drama and dance to fun children's shows and of course pantomime!

Just announced, to top off an already exciting and eclectic 2008 programme at the Grand, are comedy legend Ken Dodd, the welcome return of Scottish Dance Theatre, the hilarious Mum's The Word starring Bernie Nolan, fabulous farce Big Bad Mouse with madcap comics Cannon and Ball and smash hit musicals Seven Brides For Seven Brothers and Hello Dolly.

Add to that a one off date from fast-paced comedian Ben Elton, a specially commissioned family show Variety of Ice and a second visit for the delightful Angelina Ballerina and there really is something for everyone!

Don't miss Scottish Dance Theatre’s stunning, original works as they make a welcome return to Blackpool on Wednesday 21st May following 2007’s dazzling debut. The DEFINED programme has been created especially for the company by two of today's most exciting and innovative dance-makers: DOG is an honest, gritty, and exhilarating new work by rising star choreographer Hofesh Shechter; while tenderhook by Liv Lorent is a rollercoaster ride through a loving relationship, exploring issues around freedom and attachment, by the creator of last year's award-winning LUXURIA. There will also be a half hour pre performance talk.

How tickled we are! Ken Dodd OBE is leaving the Diddy Men in the Jam Butty Mines of Knotty Ash to bring his famous Happiness Show back to Blackpool’s Grand Theatre on Saturday 24th May and selected Sundays from Sunday 21st September to Sunday 2nd November at 7pm. An evening full of plumptiousness is promised from Professor Chucklebutty, who has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the prestigious British Comedy Awards and also features in the Guinness Book of Records for telling 1,500 jokes in three and a half hours. That's more than seven jokes a minute!

Five women ...five stories ...one common thread ...a hilarious and intimate look at motherhood. Mum's The Word is on the road again - liberating, enlightening and educating, but mainly just washing the secret, funny, dirty laundry of motherhood in public for the very first time. The all-star cast features Blackpool’s own Bernie Nolan – star of Brookside and The Bill – Sarah White (Brookside) and Pauline Fleming (Coronation Street). From Monday 26th May to Saturday 31st May.

Well Hello Dolly say Blackpool and Fylde Light Opera Company as they bring the sumptuous matchmaking musical to the Grand's stage from Tuesday 10th June to Saturday 14th June. Featuring wonderful songs such as Hello Dolly, Before The Parade Passes By and the fabulous Waiters Gallop, beautiful costumes and amazing sets, Hello Dolly with delight young and old alike.

Rock on Tommy! Madcap duo Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball return from Monday 21st July to Saturday 26th July in the fabulous farce Big Bad Mouse. Expect all sorts of crazy antics and fun for all the family.

A brand new UK tour of the sensational Seven Brides For Seven Brothers high kicks into the Grand from Friday 22nd August to Saturday 6th September. Yeee Ha! This barnstorming family favourite features memorable songs such as Bless Your Beautiful Hide, When You’re In Love and Sobbin' Women, spectacular dance routines and an all star cast to be announced.

Magical mouseling Angelina Ballerina pirouettes back into the Grand with her very own live ballet in September 2008. Don't miss it! This magical introduction to ballet for children from the age of 3 upwards features music from Tchaikovsky's Angelina's Star Performance The Sleeping Beauty with dazzling sets and costumes and is performed by eight members of the world-renowned English National Ballet. Dates to be confirmed.

Variety of Ice slides into the Grand from Thursday 23rd October to Saturday 1st November in sensational style. A specially commissioned ice show from Wild Rose - the creators of last year’s smash hit Peter Pan On Ice, Variety of Ice will astound and delight all the family with brilliant skating on a stage of real ice, amazing acrobatic and flying feats from the Russian Ice Stars. A n-ice half term treat!

Get ready for rapid-fire comedian Ben Elton as he takes to the Grand Theatre stage on Friday 7th November as part of his brand new stand up tour. The creator of TV comedy hits Blackadder and The Thin Blue Line, novelist, film director and musical producer is still best remembered for wearing sparkly suits and sending up Margaret Thatcher in the 80s with "a little bit of politics."
