China has been criticised for not doing enough to stop widespread killing in the Sudanese region of Darfur, but that does not seem to be the view of Britain's Foreign Secretary.
According to David Miliband, China's recent diplomatic efforts represent a major contribution to end the war.
Beijing special envoy to Darfur Liu Guijin has called on Sudan to "cooperate better" with international peacekeepers.
The Sudanese Government has been blamed for deliberately slowing the arrival of peacekeepers. and Mr Miliband says this is clearly Sudan's responsibility and that Beijing is making a significant contribution by raising the issue.
Meanwhile, the United Nations says 58,000 people in Darfur have suffered from the latest cycle of violence between rebels and the Government-backed Janjaweed militia.
UN Humanitarian Agency spokeswoman Orla Clinton says many people have lost everything and urgently needed protection.
"Their homes have been destroyed, some of their homes have been burnt to the ground, they have absolutely nothing left," she said.
"We have been delivering emergency food aid to them and non food items. We will continue to do that."
