Sweden Hopes for Reunited Cyprus

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has sent congratulations to the new president of Cyprus, Demitris Christofanis.

The minister adds that Sweden hopes for new negotiations between Greek and Turkish Cypriots - requiring international engagement especially from the United Nations.

Bildt maintains that reunification of Cyprus would make it easier for Turkey to join the European Union - and that Sweden is one of the more positive members of the EU in favour of Turkish membership.
