As a major sponsor of the event, the University is supporting the festival in celebrating writing and publishing, promoting reading and encouraging debate. This year will also see extensive involvement from staff and students in the programme of events.

Participation ranges from public readings by students of the University’s celebrated Creative Writing Masters course to an investigation into the legacy of the sixties by Professor of Latin American Studies, Mike Gonzalez. Published authors and graduates of the University, Louise Welsh and Anne Donovan will be giving sneak previews of their forthcoming novels and University Writer in Residence, Liz Lochhead will take part in a celebration of the literary career of Edwin Morgan. There are readings and workshop sessions by Creative Writing tutors Kei Miller, Zoe Strachan and Laura Marney.

Convener of the University’s Creative Writing Programme, Professor Michael Schmidt, said: “The Aye Write! festival builds on a great tradition of writing in Glasgow and Scotland , and the University plays a big part in that tradition. By working with Aye Write! in a very exciting and varied programme we can maintain and improve our reputation as one of the great literary cities in the UK .”
