The Buffalo Sabres dealt All-Star defenseman Brian Campbell to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday in exchange for the promising young winger Steve Bernier and a first-round draft pick.
The move came just hours before the NHL trade deadline hit at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Brian Campbell and the Sabres had a difficult time coming to terms with an extended contract so Buffalo opted to deal the seven-year vet rather than lose him to free agency at the end of the season. The Sabres also gave up a seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Bernier and the first-rounder.
Bernier has 13 goals and 10 assists this season.
