Encyclopedia of Life Is Running

Encyclopedia of Life opened up to the public yesterday with its first 30,000 pages in place and immediately became a cause for debate.

On its website EOL.org Encyclopedia of Life has the following release:

"Our official launch date was February 26th. However, due to phenomenal load on our servers, we reverted to our pages served prior to launch. We are working hard to remedy the situation and will resume momentarily."

AP report says "The Encyclopedia of Life, which eventually will have more than 1 million pages devoted to different species of life on Earth, quickly crashed on its first day of a public unveiling, organizers said.

"All the pages of the The Encyclopedia of Lifehave been made by scientists, but in a few months the encyclopedia will start taking submissions from the public, like Wikipedia."

The Encyclopedia of Life is a NASA project.
