Thirty-eight works of art in the Museum's collection have been selected to inspire the floral designers, including favorites such as Gerhard Richter's Betty; Giovanni Paolo Panini's Interior of St. Peter's, Rome; and John Martin's Sadak in Search of the Waters of Oblivion.
Several new acquisitions have also been selected, including Edgar Degas' The Milliners, Charles Francois Daubigny's Banks of the Oise, Alfred T. Bricher's Twilight in the Wilderness; and Sakai Hoitsu's Irises and Eight-Fold Bridge, a stunning two-panel Japanese folding screen recently given to the Museum by Mary and Oliver Langenberg.
Floral arrangements that best capture the essence of the works of art are recognized with awards from both their peers and from visitors. Peer awards for Best Traditional Design, Best Creative Design, Best in Show and Honorable Mention will be announced March 6.
Visitors have the opportunity to vote for their favorite floral interpretations using the same criteria Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, from 10 am–9 pm The People's Choice award winners will be announced at 10 am Sunday, March 9. -- www.stlouis.art.museum
