HD-PLC Pavilion To Debut At CES 2007

PLC Pavilion Demonstrates High-Speed Home Networking Over Existing Home Wiring

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. and Panasonic Communications Co. Ltd., is hosting a special pavilion here at CES to demonstrate high-speed Power Line Communication at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. Products from other companies that utilize HD-PLC technology will also be exhibited in the pavilion. CES is held in Las Vegas January 8 - 11, 2007.

Demand recently has grown for home networking that can support high quality and high performance applications. HD-PLC technology fulfills these demands without requiring any new wiring to be installed in the home. HD-PLC supports multiple simultaneous high-quality and timing-critical streams (e.g., HDTV and VoIP) over existing home power lines. HD-PLC's 190 Mbps* data transmission capability is nearly four times that of current wireless home networks.

The HD-PLC pavilion will have CE and home networking application demonstrations on display, such as simultaneous transmission of high-definition video and audio, media player streaming, and security video from network cameras. On the launch of the HD-PLC Pavilion, Eiji Kobayashi, Director of Panasonic's PLC business project, stated, "Our goal is to help customers fully understand the benefits of HD-PLC technology and allow them to see firsthand how easy it is to create a home broadband network without installing additional wires."

Also in the pavilion, CEPCA (the Consumer Electronics Power Line Communication Alliance) and its member companies are dedicated to collaborating on the common goal of promoting coexistence among powerline communications specifications. Details on HD-PLC and CEPCA can be obtained from two dedicated web sites:

Panasonic launched retail sale of its branded PLC adaptors in March 2006 and is now also supplying module samples for trial evaluation of HD-PLC for deployment by other companies. Today, Panasonic has also announced availability for OEM samples of a new compact HD-PLC module for evaluation by electronics manufacturers. Using Panasonic's own technology for embedding passive and active components into the substrate, the MMDPMS150 series module uses 40 percent less space than conventional modules with similar functionality. As this compact module already incorporates analog components such as noise reduction filters, manufacturers can easily develop products with high-speed PLC functionality - Panasonic.
