Singapore-born Kam Ning, second prize winner of the 2001 Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition, takes on the exuberant solo part in Barber's Violin Concerto on April 12.
As a soloist, Kam Ning has given many concerts in Europe, Singapore, Canada and the United States. She is a graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 1991 she won First Prize in the junior section of the Folkestone Menuhin International Violin Competition.
In October 2002, she was invited to perform at the National Inauguration of the Esplanade Concert Hall, where she partnered Sarah Chang in Bach's Double Violin Concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Maestro Claus Peter Flor is the newly appointed Music Director of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra starting from the 08/09 season.
He will lead the Singapore Symphony Orchestra in Mahler's Symphony No. 5, featuring a distinctive opening trumpet solo, and a gorgeously dreamy Adagietto – one of the most popular of all symphonic excerpts – which was used in Luchino Visconti's film Death in Venice, and also performed at the funeral of Robert Kennedy. -- www.sso.org.sg
