Comcast and Motorola Expand Relationship

The two companies expand their previously announced agreement to include advanced, next-generation set-top technologies

Motorola, Inc and Comcast today announced that the companies have expanded their previously announced multi-year purchase agreement for digital set-tops.

The announcement was made at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics show (8-11 January, Las Vegas Convention Center) where Motorola is exhibiting.

Under the expanded agreement, Comcast will purchase several set-top models from Motorola, including dual-tuner, high-definition (HD) digital video recorders (DVRs), and all-digital cable receivers. These next-generation digital set-tops will support Comcast's Residential Network Gateway (RNG) specification along with the Open Cable Application Platform (OCAP) initiative. Several of the models will support Motorola's Follow Me TV solution and Motorola's Linux-Javaâ„¢ software platform. Specific models will be compliant with government-mandated separable security, including CableCARD technology, as required.

"Comcast is focused on deploying advanced video services that add consumer value," said Steve Burke, President of Comcast Cable and Chief Operating Officer of Comcast Corporation. "Expanding our relationship with a leader like Motorola supports our ongoing commitment to being the provider of choice for home entertainment and information services."

"Comcast is a valued and long-time customer, and this extension strengthens our relationship," said Dan Moloney, Motorola executive vice president and president, Connected Home Solutions business. "Comcast and Motorola share similar visions of next-generation consumer experiences, and we are proud to provide them with advanced platforms that will help them deliver compelling new experiences for their customers" - Motorola.
