Representative Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, said Monday the deal posed serious questions that Congress must examine thoroughly.
Last week, the U.S. Air Force awarded a $35-billion contract to build 179 new tanker planes to a partnership between the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company and U.S. defense contractor Northrop Grumman.
Chicago-based Boeing was the losing bidder on the job. Lawmakers from Washington state and Kansas, where Boeing operates manufacturing facilities, have demanded an explanation from the Pentagon.
Boeing had been expected to win the contract. The surprise choice of EADS marks the European company's entry into the U.S. defense market.
The Air Force uses airborne tankers to refuel fighter jets, bombers, and other military aircraft in mid-air.

Tanker deal Airbus
Our military deserves the very best equipment offered and I strongly believe our national security deserves the processes and our economy deserve the processes to build the very best in America not outside of the country. We send billions overseas to lift up economies: or is it bribe countries to be friendly to us . What happened to earning our respect. We are creating a welfare world that I for one am tired of paying for !Again these welfare countries ( Saudi Arabia being one of the larger recipients of our dollars sell us goods and rape us with the oil prices ) should be set free to give us goods in exchange for real value. It is not wise to become an isolationist country , however, selective giving and awarding must have America first in mind. I believe we have lost our way and are truly killing ourselves from within . We can no longer police the world in the name of spreading democracy . We can police the world on a fee basis on the merits of the request and need to provide stability. Wow , meant to say the Airbus deal stinks !
