The Whitechapel's Art Plus celebrates the flashpoints of art and other cultural forms in an exceptional one-off event, on 6 March, at 8:30pm.
The Whitechapel's Director, Iwona Blazwick, TOD'S CEO Diego Della Valle and Art Plus Chairs Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and Jade Jagger along with the committee of leading figures from the arts, fashion, film and music, invite guests to an extraordinary evening of live performance, film and music to raise funds for the Whitechapel's Expansion and Education programme by buying tickets at £125 each.
Having received invitations by fashion designer Henry Holland, VIP guests will enter the dramatic setting of a former church in One Marylebone Road, London NW1, to a classical music DJ set by Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) and champagne reception and special menu created by event designers Urban Caprice.
The Whitechapel then premieres leading international artist Christian Marclay's brand new film which signals an exciting new departure for his work. Christian Marclay is known for creating epic installations using classic Hollywood films that thunder across huge screens. He pioneered the use of samples and turntables in improvised performances and has made art for over 30 years.
Celebrity DJs Andrew Weatherall, Rob Marmot and Shaun Young will get the party started with live sets, while Mourad Mazouz of Sketch and David Dorrell create the soundtrack for the lounge bar, a glamorous montage of art scenes from classic Hollywood movies commissioned by Ian White and created by Sarah Woods.
Guests will also have the opportunity to buy specially commissioned artworks by leading artists including David Batchelor, Jonathan Monk, Simon Periton, Jamie Shovlin, Daniel Sinsel, as well as an artist-customised TOD'S D bag in an interactive silent auction.
Whitechapel Director Iwona Blazwick said; 'The TOD'S Art Plus Film Party 2008 shows what is possible when different art forms fuse together. I eagerly await the electric combination of cinema, music and live performance that Christian Marclay will magically weave together in what promises to be an extraordinary evening.'
The TOD's Art Plus Film Party 2008 will raise vital funds for the Whitechapel's Expansion Project and Education programme that works with over 3,000 children and 30 diverse community groups each year in one of Europe's poorest boroughs. -- www.whitechapel.org
