The Royal Danish Opera celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart with a new and sexy version of his absolute masterpiece, Don Giovanni. This dynamic staging marks the debut at the Royal Danish Theatre of British director Keith Warner, creator of the production of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen staged at Covent Garden.
Don Giovanni will be conducted by Adam Fischer, who apart from enjoying a top international career also holds the position as principal conductor of the National Danish Sinfonietta, which he will conduct for the very first time at the Royal Danish Theatre.
The title role as Don Giovanni will be performed by Johan Reuter, soloist with the Royal Danish Opera ensemble. This year he held his Covent Garden Opera debut in the title role in Alban Berg's Wozzeck, and in 2007 he is scheduled to perform the title role in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at Wiener Festwochen. Alternating in the title role is Morten Frank Larsen, whose future appearances include performances at Staatsoper and Volksoper in Vienna and an assignment as visiting artist with the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the spring of 2008.
Also appearing are: Christian Christiansen/Ludvig Lindström as the commandant, Inger Dam-Jensen as Donna Anna, Bo Kristian Jensen as Don Ottavio, Ylva Kihlberg as Donna Elvira, Johannes Weisser as Leporello, Michael Lindberg as Masetto, and Elinor Fryklund as Zerlina.
Set and costume design is by Es Devlin, and lighting design is by Wolfgang Göbbel.
