Jack Is Back for Jack Frost Children's WinterFest

The 3rd Annual Jack Frost Children's WinterFest presented by the Confederation Bridge, the largest winter festival East of Quebec City, will be held in three Charlottetown locations February 16-18, 2007.

Jack Frost is returning to Victoria Park to build the Aliant Snow Kingdom, and this year, is inviting families to warm up in his New Indoor CIBC PlayLand at the Charlottetown Civic Centre and at LEGO Town located at the Shops of Confederation Court Mall.

"The 2007 Jack Frost Children's WinterFest will attract Islanders and visitors to the capital city for a weekend of family fun," said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. "Canada's New Government is pleased to invest in this event which further strengthens the tourism industry on PEI."

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of The Cat in the Hat, the Aliant Snow Kingdom, located at Charlottetown's Victoria Park, will be transformed into a fun and festive Seussville. Inspired by Dr. Seuss' storybook villages, and designed by the Canadian Snow Sculpting Team, the Snow Kingdom will captivate visitors of all ages.

"The Jack Frost Festival is a great opportunity for families to take part in fun winter activities," said Premier Pat Binns. "The event also provides a draw for visitors to the Island during the winter months and a boost to local businesses. I congratulate the organizers and volunteers responsible for this great weekend of events."

Charlottetown will be the first Atlantic Canadian stop on her debut Canadian Tour; Eva Avila will rock the PEPSI Live Outdoor Stage. Also included in the musical line-up is The Wanted Man - Ultimate Tribute to Johnny Cash.

"The City of Charlottetown is pleased to be a funding partner for the Jack Frost Children's WinterFest," says Mayor Clifford Lee. "This event, held in the middle of winter, has a tremendous impact on our winter tourism." More importantly Lee expresses, "It provides families a wonderful opportunity to spend a magical winter weekend together, by taking part in loads of fun filled activities."

Making their first Eastern Canadian V.I.P appearance at this year's Jack Frost Children's WinterFest is The Backyardigans, the high-spirited preschool friends will take you on an exciting journey filled with music and dance.

The CIBC Indoor PlayLand will feature inflatable attractions, carnival rides and Murphy's Pharmacies Webkinzâ„¢ Fan Frenzy. Children can play games, dance with their Webkinzâ„¢ pets, and buy the latest in Webkinzâ„¢ accessories.

LEGO® Town will not only provide laughs, but also a learning experience for the whole family to enjoy. Children will have the opportunity to participate in interactive building demonstrations and building contests. Also on location at the Shops of Confederation Court Mall is the Create-a-Bear activity area which combines the joy of teddy bears with an interactive process allowing children ages 3 and up to create their own huggable Jack Frost souvenir.

This year Jack Frost Children's Festival has partnered with some of PEI's most talented figure skaters to bring Ice Quest 2007 to the Charlottetown Civic Centre. This ice spectacular promises fun, fantasy and excitement. It features the talents of Sherwood Parkdale Skating Club, the 2007 PEI Canada Games Skating Team, the PEI Synchronized Skating Team and other special guests.

"The Jack Frost WinterFest has been an amazing success story for Charlottetown," states Kim Green, CEO for Tourism Charlottetown. "In its second year, we sold close to 9500 tickets and 608 hotel packages; representing 936 room nights. This festival has proven to be a major draw to Charlottetown and PEI during the non-traditional tourism season, with over 40% off-Island attendance," concludes Green.

Jack Frost Children's WinterFest is bigger then ever and is a huge undertaking for Tourism Charlottetown. With so many additions to the program and the added extra venues there will be a need for lots of volunteers. Don't delay - get your tickets today! Advance tickets are only $14.00 plus taxes per person - they are an ideal stocking stuffer. -- www.capitalcommission.pe.ca
