Green and Pleasant Land Series

Throughout the coming months this series of quintessentially English orchestral music offers a high calibre of exuberant artists well known to this repertoire, spanning across three of London’s major concert venues, the newly refurbished Royal Festival Hall, the Orchestra’s home Cadogan Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. The series features many chief exponents of English music including Leonard Slatkin, Nigel Kennedy, Sir Andrew Davis, Vernon Handley, Steven Isserlis, Paul Daniel and Tasmin Little, to name but a few. Offering a rich and diverse range of music from Tippett’s A Child of Our Time (Sir Andrew Davis conducting) and the symphonies of Elgar, to great English concertos including Delius’ Violin Concerto (Tasmin Little), Walton’s Cello Concerto (Guy Johnston) and Finzi's Cello Concerto (Robert Cohen).

In honour of the 50th Anniversary of Vaughan Williams’ death, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform several of his works. Vernon Handley will conduct Vaughan Williams’ Symphony Nos.3 and 4 and Paul Daniel takes the helm to conduct his Symphony No.5 and the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

Ian Maclay, Managing Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra says: ‘It is a wonderful and unique opportunity for the Orchestra to perform our Green and Pleasant Land series across three major London venues. The concerts cover a vast range of English repertoire encapsulating some of the greatest works ever written’. -- www.rpo.co.uk
