A growing divide exists within the public health service in Sweden according to the annual report from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
In a debate article in Swedish newspaper, Svenska Dagbladet, the recently appointed general director, Lars-Erik Holm, and the project leader, Ingrid Schmidt, write that healthcare is less equal today than it was in the 1990s.
It was also found that patients with a higher education received better care and access to medical treatment than those with a lower education. In addition people from a Swedish background received better support than those with a foreign background.
The report is to be presented to the government today.
