Boston Opera Presents Konstanze

Soprano Mary Dunleavy returns to Boston Lyric Opera to sing the role of Konstanze. Ms. Dunleavy was last heard at Boston Lyric Opera as Pamina in Die Zauberflote in 2000. Bass David Cushing sings Osmin following appearances with the Company in Un ballo in maschera, La traviata and others.

Young women are held hostage on the Orient Express and suffer greatly from the advances of their Turkish captors. A carefully planned rescue by their fiances goes awry, but the Pasha frees them in a surprising gesture of mercy.

The rest of the cast members are making their Boston Lyric Opera debuts in The Abduction from the Seraglio. Tenor Norman Reinhardt sings the role of Konstanze's dashing fiance Belmonte. Coloratura soprano Amanda Pabyan, a recent New England Regional Winner and a National Semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, sings the maidservant Blonde and tenor Tim Oliver sings the young lover Pedrillo.

Maestro Willie Anthony Waters, who made his Company debut conducting Boston Lyric Opera's The 30th Anniversary Celebration Concert in September of 2006, returns to conduct The Abduction from the Seraglio. James Robinson returns to direct his acclaimed staging aboard the Orient Express. Other returning production artists include set designer Allen Moyer, and costume designer Anna R. Oliver.
