Michael Feinstein presents the final show in his popular, "Feinstein's at the McCallum" series, when he is joined by Nancy Wilson, on Friday, March 14, at 8:00pm.
Michael Feinstein is a true treasure of the music scene. No contemporary artist captures the essence of popular music like Michael, bringing insights and passion to the rich tapestry of songs from the big band, jazz and pop eras. Michael Feinstein both charms and defies categorization. Call him what you will, but in the end, he just loves music. He loves playing it, singing it, studying it, and collecting it. One of the top interpreters of the popular American song, Michael Feinstein has been a household name ever since the success of his 1988 one-man Broadway show Isn't It Romantic.
Not only a top vocalist, but also a talented composer and arranger, Michael has released more than twenty diverse albums, sold out shows worldwide, and played for three Presidents at the White House, as well as England's Queen Mother. Michael's joy in performing led him to open his club, Feinstein's at the Regency in New York City, and he brings that same intimacy to his popular series of shows in Southern California, "Feinstein's at the McCallum" at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.
Nancy Wilson's talents are so diverse that it is hard to classify, easily singing jazz and blues and swinging right into pop and cabaret tunes. She was so successful that, between 1960 and 1962, Capitol Records released five Nancy Wilson albums, two of which remain in-demand today: The Swingin's Mutual with George Shearing and Nancy Wilson/Cannonball Adderley. Nancy performed on variety shows, her own popular program, The Nancy Wilson Show, and also appeared on numerous television dramas.
One of Nancy's more interesting albums came in 1991, when Barry Manilow was given lyrics written by Johnny Mercer which had never been put to music. Barry added melodies and chose Nancy to sing the resultant songs. In 1995, National Public Radio (NPR) chose Nancy to host their Jazz Profiles series. In the late 1990s, Nancy teamed up with MCG Jazz, a social enterprise supporting the youth education programs of the Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (MCG) in Pittsburgh. All proceeds from the sale of 2001's A Nancy Wilson Christmas went directly to support the programs of MCG Jazz. Three years later, R.S.V.P. (Rare Songs, Very Personal) won the 2005 Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Nancy recorded a third album with MCG Jazz, Turned to Blue, yet another classic from this extraordinary song stylist.
