Celebrate Jack Jones' fifty years in show business as he is joined by his musical friends Patti Austin, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, and Bob Anderson, for a very special tribute at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, California, on Saturday, March 15, at 8:00pm.
Of Jack Jones, Frank Sinatra said, "Jack is one of the major singers of our time." Mel Torme called him "the greatest 'pure' singer in the world." Jack's professional debut was in his father's act at the Thunderbird Hotel in Las Vegas when he was just 19. He went out on his own and was working as a gas station attendant when he heard one of his songs playing on the car radio. As his career gained momentum, Jack developed an appreciation for well constructed songs and for songs that tell stories with meaning led him to record works by the greatest balladeers.
In addition to a successful recording career, honored with multiple Grammy Awards ("Wives and Lovers," "Lollipops and Roses") and nominations, Jack's credits include film and television roles; a TV variety show, and performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the White House. He has recorded popular theme songs for film and TV and is renowned in musical theater for performances in Guys and Dolls, South Pacific, She Loves Me, and Pajama Game, and as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha in the national tour. With over 50 recorded albums and sold-out world tours, Jack Jones continues to charm audiences with his wit, sensitivity and vocal power.
Patti Austin crosses all musical genres and has a star-studded career that began at the age of four. During the 70s she was the "queen" of the New York session scene and she was heard on hundreds of commercials, and behind everyone from Paul Simon to Diana Ross. Her debut album for Quincy Jones' Qwest label included the hit "Baby Come to Me," a classic duet with James Ingram. Patti's albums include Patti Austin, Getting' Away With Murder, The Real Me, In and out of Love, Street of Dreams, and her Grammy-nominated tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, For Ella. Patti Austin continues to create milestones in an incredible career, a further testament to her status as a member of that rare breed: a true artist whose creativity knows no limits.
The songs of Alan and Marilyn Bergman have enriched the great American songbook for over four decades. They have earned16 Academy Award nominations, Emmys, Grammys, and three Oscars. Among their songs are "Nice 'n' Easy," "In the Heat of the Night," "You Don't Bring Me Flowers," "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?," "The Summer Knows," "On My Way to You," "You Must Believe In Spring," to name a few. Alan and Marilyn continue to contribute to the world of songwriting. In 2001, The Kennedy Center commissioned them to write a jazz song cycle. Written in collaboration with Cy Coleman, "Portraits in Jazz: A Gallery of Songs" was performed to widespread acclaim. The show, with text by Larry Gelbart, played a sold-out engagement at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles.
People magazine dubbed Bob Anderson "America's greatest singing impressionist." With a wonderful voice and a natural gift for mimicry, Bob was able to reproduce the voices and personalities of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and a host of others. Bob made numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Johhny Carson, The Merv Griffin Show, The Mike Douglas Show, and appearances on The Dinah Shore Show, The David Letterman Show and Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. Always working, Bob has become one of the top solo attractions for corporate America, all-star benefits, and the top clubs and showrooms around the world.
