New Vocational College In Sweden Set for 2009

The government’s plan for Sweden’s first vocational training college is shaping up for 2009.

The college is to train a series of different professions, everything from pharmacy and robot technicians to lawyers’ assistants and heavy machinery operators.

According to Swedish Television SVT the intention is to raise these vocations’ status and to create a standard qualification that will benefit the workplace.

However, the opposition Left Party is critical of the government plan. They claim that only students who completed high school would be able to apply to the college.

At present, around 35,000 people are either studying for a vocational qualification or are within a traineeship.
