Canadian Museum Launches 2007 Season

The Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilization will be closed from January 8 to 12, 2007 for annual maintenance. At the Museum of Civilization, the IMAX® Theatre and the Café du Musée will also be closed. Regular hours for both Museums will resume on Saturday, January 13, 2007.

Join the Canadian Museum of Civilization's Curator of Canadian Crafts, Decorative Arts and Design, Alan Elder, for a special visit of the exhibition UNIQUE! 30 Years of Outstanding Crafts on Saturday, January 13. Participants will have the opportunity to discover Canada's most striking, original and best-made handcrafted objects, followed by coffee and discussion with Mr. Elder.

UNIQUE! features 120 objects handmade by 70 of the country's most accomplished and imaginative craftspeople. This exhibition is on until August 5, 2007

On January 14, the Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to enjoy Middle Eastern sounds and rhythms with baladi dancer Farida as you discover the remarkable secrets of Petra. Be sure to catch one of the three performances presented throughout the day in conjunction with the exhibition PETRA: Lost City of Stone, on at the Museum until February 18, 2007.

What does it take to build a skating rink in your backyard? Find out on Thursday, December 28 with Mark Magee, Manager of the Nepean Sportsplex and specialist on backyard rinks, during a coffee and conversation on "How to build a backyard skating rink" at the Canadian Museum of Civilization. The program is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Lace Up: Canada's Passion for Skating, which is presented until April 1, 2007

The Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to a calligraphy demonstration inside the PETRA: Lost City of Stone exhibition, which is presented until February 18, 2007. Join calligrapher Said Moheb Hashimy as he reveals the flowing patterns and intricate styles of Middle Eastern calligraphy. -- www.civilization.ca
