
The Shakespeare Theatre Company continues its Capital Weekend with the Classics hotel packages during the citywide Shakespeare In Washington festival conceived by Kennedy Center President Michael Kaiser and curated by Shakespeare Theatre Company Artistic Director Michael Kahn.
From January through June, cultural tourists to Washington, D.C., are invited to see four productions, explore several of Shakespeare's "lost"Â plays and participate in a range of audience enrichment programming at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, "the best classical theatre in the country, bar none"Â ( The Christian Science Monitor ), while taking advantage of discounted rates at several of Washington's top hotels. The Company's special c ultural tourism packages include discounted tickets to the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Lansburgh Theatre and offer accommodation at the Willard Inter-Continental Hotel, The Henley Park Hotel, Morrison-Clark Inn, Courtyard by Marriott Washington Convention Center, Red Roof Inn and the Hotel George.

Richard III
From January 16 through March 18, the Shakespeare Theatre Company presents Shakespeare's Richard III, directed by Artistic Director Michael Kahn. One of Shakespeare's earliest and most enduring successes, Richard III depicts a self-proclaimed villain battling to obtain and retain the crown. A ruthless Machiavellian, Richard seduces and slaughters his enemies and relatives, becoming so tainted with blood that "sin will pluck on sin."Â Geraint Wyn Davies returns to perform the title role.
Performances for Richard III are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday (except January 23 and March 18) and at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Saturday and Sunday matinee performances begin at 2 p.m., with an additional noon matinee on Wednesday, March 14.

Titus Andronicus
From April 3 through May 20, the Shakespeare Theatre Company presents Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, directed by Gale Edwards. When Roman General Titus returns from his victorious campaign against the Goths, he sacrifices one of the Goth princes in retaliation, setting in motion a horrific cycle. Amid the violence, Shakespeare provides scenes of deep humanity, illustrating the futility and human costs of revenge. Director Gale Edwards returns for the first time since her productions of Richard III and Hamlet.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday (except April 10 and May 20) and 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday and Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. (except April 8) with a special noon matinee on Wednesday, May 16.

Hamlet
The Shakespeare Theatre Company presents Hamlet, directed by Michael Kahn, from June 5 through July 29, 2007. One of the greatest plays ever written, Hamlet has captivated audiences for 400 years with its explorations of life, love, duty and vengeance. Commanded by his murdered father's ghost to seek revenge, Hamlet struggles with the human and spiritual costs of pursuing justice. Michael Kahn directs with Jeffrey Carlson in the title role.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday (except June 12 and July 4) and 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday and Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. (except June 10) with an additional noon matinee on Wednesday, July 18.

Love's Labor's Lost
From May 25 through June 4, the Shakespeare Theatre Company presents free performances of Shakespeare's Love's Labor's Lost at the 17th-annual Free For All at Carter Barron Amphitheatre in Rock Creek Park. With Love's Labor's Lost, Shakespeare created a feast of language, rich with rhymed verse, wordplay and witty banter. After renouncing the world's pleasures for the world of academia, four noblemen find themselves helplessly falling in love. David Muse restages Michael Kahn 's colorful production, which traveled to the Royal Shakespeare Company's Complete Works Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. daily. No performance on Monday, May 28. The Shakespeare Theatre Company Free For All is made possible in part by The Washington Post and a committed group of community-minded sponsors.

ReDiscovery Series Readings
The Shakespeare Theatre Company ReDiscovery Series will feature free staged readings of the "lost"Â plays of Shakespeare- Edward III, Cardenio and Sir Thomas Moore. Works for the ReDiscovery Series are chosen by Artistic Director Michael Kahn and presented by members of the artistic staff. Guest artists join members of the Washington theatrical community to investigate these great but lesser-known plays of world literature.
The ReDiscovery Series reading of Edward III will be Monday, February 12, at 7:30 p.m. Cardenio will be read April 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sir Thomas More on May 14 at 7:30 p.m. Space is limited. Cardenio continues to be quite thoroughly lost. I don't know what play is being done here, but advertising it, whatever it is, as Cardenio amounts to false advertising.
