Race and gender in the US election

With the race between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democrat nomination set to go the distance, Cardiff University welcomes a leading US academic to discuss race and gender in the presidential contest.

Professor Dianne Pinderhughes is President of the American Political Science Association and Professor in Political Science and Africana Studies at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. Her research addresses issues of inequality, with a focus on ethnic politics and public policy. Her talk, on Monday 31 March, will look at how race and gender will intersect in the presidential campaign.

The lecture is the first in a new University lecture series on Equality and Diversity, to be hosted by Professor Teresa Rees and Professor Terry Threadgold, Pro Vice-Chancellors for Research and Staff respectively.

Professor Rees said: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Dianne Pinderhughes to Cardiff University to deliver this very timely public lecture. She is a very fitting scholar to deliver the inaugural lecture in the new series on Equality and Diversity.”

The lecture takes place in the Glamorgan Building from 12.30pm to 2pm, with a buffet beforehand from noon. The event is free but registration is required.
