A Vietnamese couple are fighting for custody of their 3 month old baby who was taken into custody care straight after birth.
Värnamo Social Services justify their action because of the mother’s severe epilepsy and the father’s supposed unreliability to take care of the child on his own. The municipality believe they are acting in the child’s best interests.
However, nursing and medical staff involved in the case consider the municipality’s drastic action scandalous and unjust. Interviewed by Swedish Radio news, one of the midwives pointed out that the couple never even had a chance to prove themselves as capable parents.
