
The centre-right coalition government has rejected a proposal by Social Democratic leader Mona Sahlin to force municipalities to accept refugees.
Migration Minister Tobias Billström deems the proposal inadequate in addressing the issue of refugee relocation. Instead, the government intends to sharpen the rules on where new immigrants can relocate to.
At present, some municipalities take in many immigrants simply because of relatives already living in the same area - while other towns hardly register any immigration at all.
