The gig will be on 2nd May at 7pm and is being held in conjunction with Borders Books, Dundee. Dave will be signing copies of his book, America Unchained, after the gig.
Dave Gorman has travelled from coast to coast across the United States of America without patronising any corporate or chain-style businesses. Therefore he ate, slept and filled his car in restaurants, hotels and gas stations which were privately owned.
Gamely, Dave sets off but it isn’t long before he’s abandoning his simple coast-to-coast route to visit a town called Independence where the local soda fountain personifies everything he’s looking for, but is in the process of closing down. Along the way he stays in an Oregon treehouse and a unique Idahoan B&B shaped like a giant beagle. He beds down in a Colorado trailer park, meets more mechanics than he was hoping to need and discovers the true meaning of Thanksgiving in Kansas when he’s welcomed in by a Mexican motel manager’s family.
All money raised from the gig will be donated to the Diabetes Research Campaign which is aiming to raise £3million towards state of the art research and patient care facilities across Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross, adding to the world-class diabetes research programmes which are already well-established through the University and NHS Tayside. The campaign has already raised £1.7m towards the overall target.
Robbie Glendinning, General Manager of Borders Dundee says, "We're all big Dave Gorman fans in the store & those who have seen him before are raving about his live appearances - this will be a fantastic night!"
Professor Dario Alessi, Director of the Dundee Diabetes Research Centre at the University, says, "We are absolutely delighted that such a high profile and fantastic comedian as Dave Gorman has agreed to help the campaign to help raise funding and awareness of this insidious and rapidly escalating disease."
Tickets are £5 and are available from the University of Dundee Student Union shop, from Borders Dundee, Gallagher Retail Park or on line at the www.dundee-reunited.com store.
