Rev. Jeremiah Wright Obama Pastor's 911 Comments

Posted March 14th, 2008 by admin_huliq

The pastor of Barack Obama Rev. Jeremiah Wright has earlier made some controversial comments as a preacher that may come to create some difficulties for Obama during the 2008 U.S. Presidential Race.

Obama is going to have to denounce the statements of the pastor of the church he's belonged to for many years in much stronger terms than he has previously if he has any hopes of becoming president. This ABC news story has many very damaging quotes from Obama's Pastor: God Damn America, U.S. to Blame for 9/11.

This is what I find the most offensive - Jeremiah Wright speaking in terms very reminiscent of Ward Churchill's vile article after the September 11 attacks:

In addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda's attacks because of its own terrorism.

"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Rev. Wright said in a sermon on Sept. 16, 2001.

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost," he told his congregation.

He even uses the same metaphor as Churchill - chickens coming home to roost.

And Obama's campaign hasn't been nearly forceful enough in its denunciations of Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"In a statement to ABCNews.com, Obama's press spokesman Bill Burton said, "Sen. Obama has said repeatedly that personal attacks such as this have no place in this campaign or our politics, whether they're offered from a platform at a rally or the pulpit of a church. Sen. Obama does not think of the pastor of his church in political terms. Like a member of his family, there are things he says with which Sen. Obama deeply disagrees. But now that he is retired, that doesn't detract from Sen. Obama's affection for Rev. Wright or his appreciation for the good works he has done."

I don't really care if Obama doesn't think of the pastor of his church in political terms - a lot of other people will, and will identify him with the comments that Wright has made over the years. He has to denounce him, and quickly. I don't believe for a minute that Obama believes the same things as Wright does - but he has to make that crystal clear.

Obama's spiritual mentor

Everyone should know that Obama has followed Rev. Wright for 2 decades. He allows his children to attend and be taught in this racist church with a man who spews hatred for whites and for the country in which they live. This is not just an acquaintance-Obama has claimed this man as his mentor-the one who lead him down the path to Jesus. The tenets of the church are afro-centric- the mother country for members of the congregation is Africa-not the United States- Barack Obama is running to be President of the United States- The press has known about this for over a year- why didn't it come out before? Most of the media is trying to change their demographic -get more young viewers- increasing ratings which means money and corporate greed is controlling the news. This is shameful and needs to be stopped- We must have a fourth estate we can trust otherwise our democracy is at risk. Imagine if Hillary Clinton's minister preached white power and gave their annual award to David Dukes? How long would she have lasted?

My great grandfather along with thousands of other white Americans fought and gave their lives to end slavery in American in the Civil War and it was not only white Europeans who enslaved Africans, Africans enslaved their own people and sold them as slaves not only to white europeans but also to other countries around the world!!! So do your homework before you slander America. I also find it very hard to believe that Obama has known this man for over 20 years, is a regular member of the church, was married by him, had him baptize his children, prays with him before public speeches and debates, and says the man has been an uncle to him, would not know his opinions which he expresses so openly on multiple occasions!!!!!!!!!! Personally I think Rev.Jeremiah Wright is a lousy waste of space, America is his country, either love it, or leave it.

Obama is real

You'll really be surprised to hear the truth from one of the other minister's at his church, right from Obama's website: http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/samgrahamfelsen/gGB8gK

Wright is right?

I think it's childish to pretend that the United States hasn't done a lot to piss people off around the world -- and not because "they hate freedom."

I haven't yet seen the Wright's full remarks or their context, but I suspect that I'll view them with some sympathy.

I'm not an American hater. I love American. I love Americans. I support the troops. I pay my taxes. I vote. And I surely don't believe that the 9/11 attacks were in any way defensible.

But I also think and believe that America has perpetrated a lot of injustice both by action and inaction, both at home and abroad. And for a black man to call out America on injustice is, I think sensible.

I am absolutley incredulous that Obama could escape 20+ years of association with this racist pastor with his simple statements of recent. Obama has called Wright his "mentor". A mentor is by definition someone you have specifically sought out due to your high level of respect and agreement and as someone that you hold up as a role model for your own beliefs and actions. That he has subjected his children to this vile rhetoric is inexplicable unless he feels that it is "good" for them to hear, learn and understand. NO ONE would continue to attend a church, school, group, etc. for 20 years unless you found and enjoyed an association with like-minded people. The old adage, "birds of a feather, flock together" is one my dad would no doubt use in this situation. This whole recent distancing himself from Wright is nothing more than one friend telling another... "Listen, I know you'll understand that I have to say that I don't support you but you and I really know the truth". (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink) This is similar to Spitzer and his situation... nothing was going to be found out about his paying for prostitutes until he got caught... nothing was going to be done about Obama's mentor until people started listening to the message and were appropriately incensed. Up until this point I had at least given Obama credit for being honest... not wise maybe, but at least honest. I can no longer hold that opinion of him.
