Despite earlier discrepancies between EU members, the 27 states agreed on a timetable to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent by the year 2020.
But it is still unclear how the 27-member bloc will actually accomplish the aspired reduction.
Speaking to Swedish Radio news, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt said he was optimistic that members will sign a detailed agreement by the end of the year under the French presidency.
