Dire Straits for Single Parents in Sweden

One in four single parent households in Sweden is in financial straits.

According to the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, the number of single parent households with economic problems has doubled since the year 2000.

A single household income of between 2300 and 2400 dollars before tax counts as a poor economic standard. Worst hit are single parents not born in Sweden. Over half of this group have problems making ends meet.

Sweden has one of the highest divorce rates in Europe with 260,000 single parents in Sweden today.
