Tennessee In SEC Basketball Tournament Semifinals

No. 1 seed Tennessee advances in the SEC Basketball Tournament on Friday after squeezing out a victory against South Carolina, 89-87.

Chris Lofton hit a 3-pointer with 11.4 seconds remaining, giving Dave Odom a hard-fought loss to enter his retirement. Odom announced in January he would step down at the end of the season.

Lofton had just 10 points, shooting 4-for-12 from the field.

Tennessee (29-3) claimed its first SEC Basketball Tournament championship in 41 years during the regular season and hopes to lock up a top NCAA tournament seed by winning the league tournament.

Wayne Chism had 23 points and seven rebounds for the Volunteers. Jajuan Smith added 19 points and five rebounds.

Daron Downey led the Gamecocks (14-16) with 26 points and five assists. Zam Fredrick added 24 points and five assists.

The remaining schedule for the SEC Basketball Tournament has the Vanderbilt Commodores will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 3:15 p.m. The Alabama Crimson Tide face the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. In the fourth game of the quarterfinals, the Georgia Bulldogs will face the Kentucky Wildcats at 9:45 p.m.

Tickets for the SEC Basketball Tournament are still available for the games, even as the bracket gets smaller.
