From next week Air New Zealand will charge travellers more for domestic and trans-Tasman flights, as well as trips to the Pacific Islands.
The cost of an Air New Zealand fare, booked from next Wednesday, will increase by an average of 3 per cent.
The airline says it is likely long haul fares will also rise.
The company says it regrets the price hike but it can no longer shield its customers from soaring fuel prices.
Air New Zealand says it is now paying $US130 a barrel for jet fuel, $US10 more than a month ago, and it cannot rule out further fare increases if fuel costs do not fall.
