Indian internship beckons five lucky students

Five University of Cambridge students will spend eight weeks in India on an internship scheme launched by one of the sub-continent’s most famous organizations.

The Tata Group is one of the country’s largest organizations with revenues of more than $50billion. It actively promotes a commitment to return wealth to society in India.

TISES –Tata International Social Entrepreneurship Scheme – has been developed to offer students the opportunity to work on corporate social responsibility projects within the Tata Group of Companies in India.

Interns will work on one of four projects based in the town of Mithapur in the state of Gujarat.

The projects include helping fishermen to develop their own trading enterprise and enhancing economic development through self-help groups in rural communities.

Successful applicants from Cambridge University will fly to India in July this year following a series of orientation workshops which will be held in Cambridge. The workshops will address issues relating to living and working in India.

Places will be offered on a competitive basis and successful applicants will be matched by the Tata Group to an appropriate project.

Tata Group will arrange and provide local accommodation, medical facilities, domestic travel costs in India and an allowance for incidental costs. The Group will also provide one third of the return economy air fare to India. All other costs are the responsibility of the internship holder.

Anyone wishing to be considered for a place should submit a transcript of their academic performance, a letter of support from their director of studies or course director as well as a letter of support from at least one referee. They should also provide a statement explaining their interest in social entrepreneurship programmes like TISES and what they could contribute to the scheme.

Submissions need to be emailed to Dr Helen Haugh at the Judge Business School (TISES@jbs.cam.ac.uk) by April 14 at 5pm.
