Harry Kewell to skipper Socceroos

Harry Kewell has been given the captain's armband for the Socceroos' international friendly against Singapore on Saturday night.

The contest is a warm up match ahead of Wednesday's crucial World Cup qualifier against China in the south western city of Kunming.

Australia's European-based players will join the squad on Monday after playing for their respective clubs this weekend.

Kewell, currently struggling to win a place in the Liverpool squad, says he is looking forward to captaining a Socceroos team made up of mostly A-League players.

"It's a great honour, but for me as captain or previous captains before I think we all state the same thing, there's eleven captains out there," he said.

"We go out there and work as a team and that's how I'm going to treat it."
